So, you’re investing in a 12-step skincare routine but not seeing results? No matter how much you think you’re nailing your skincare routine, a few old habits may be preventing you from reaching your skin goals.
We spoke to our Global Education Ambassador (and skincare wizard), Tracey Beeby to share the most common skincare mistakes you might be making in your routine, and what to do. Here’s what she said.
We know it may be tempting to try and test every skincare product, from every skincare brand all at the same time, but this is a major red flag in our eyes. Product ranges are designed to work together; mixing multiple brands may be sabotaging your results. At Ultra, our products are formulated and tested to complement each other. This is why we suggest sticking to one skincare brand so you can get maximum effectiveness of your products.
Patting your serums and moisturisers into your skin.
If you’re a skincare aficionado, you’ll know this one is a controversial debate, but Tracey has settled it. Your corrective serums and moisturisers should be massaged into the skin in light circular motions until completely absorbed. This will ensure that every juicy drop effectively sinks into the skin, allowing maximum absorption and benefits.
Ignoring the recommended usage of your products.
You’re either overly excited about your skincare products that you want to drench your skin in the entire bottle (we don’t blame you), or you want to maximise the longevity by using a teeny-tiny amount with each use. Either way, this may be preventing you from achieving your desired results. We always suggest following the recommended usage of your products, so when in doubt, check the product label.
Cleansing your skin with scorching hot water.
This may dry out your skin and strip it of its natural oils - leaving you feeling tight or dehydrated. This is why our experts suggest pairing your cleanser (an Ultraceuticals one) with a comfortable lukewarm water temperature, guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed. If you like to cleanse your skin in the shower (we know it’s tempting), be sure to dial down the hot temperature and pat your skin dry with a damp face cloth afterwards.
Not double cleansing in the evening.
Cleansing your skin twice may seem like a tedious task but unfortunately, a quick cleanse and rinse in the evening isn’t going to cut it if you want to remove all the daily gunk and grime. Your first cleanse will remove surface impurities such as makeup, dirt, oil and sunscreen sitting on top of the skin. Your second cleanse ensures anything that wasn’t removed in the first round, has been thoroughly removed and rinsed down the drain.
Double cleansing will leave your pores squeaky clean, plus it will allow greater absorption of your corrective serums that follow. We dive deeper into double cleansing in blog: Is Double Cleansing Really Necessary?
